Hi! Welcome to my Fotopic site :o)
My photographs include work on the Cambrian Railways Society's Nantmawr branch project, railtours I have been on, in addition to walks in the countryside and on abandoned railway lines. Another recent added addition includes tracklaying on the Welsh Highland railway Caernarfon's extension to Porthmadog. I've started volunteering on the WHR too as on the Nantmawr railway project, working parties here don't always happen due to regular volunteers having to work various shifts in their work places. This means that I not only benefit from doing something enjoyable but also I'm learning new skills on how to lay track. This could come in handy if and when the CRS ever reopens the line beyond Llanddu and up the Tanat Valley line towards Llanrhaeadr Y.M. Please note that any slanderous comments made on any photograph will be deleted.
Pictures here include a ride on the currently open Welsh Highland railway between Caernarfon and Rhyd Ddu, Walks around Llanfyllin, A ride on unopened sections of Welsh Highland railway between Rhyd Ddu and Porthmadog, A walk on sections of the previous trackbed between Nantmor and Porthmadog, A walk on sections of the now bought disused line from Llanddu (nr the site of Blodwell Junction) to Llynclys Junction. Once autumn comes and the undergrowth has thinned out a little, I'm planning to walk the rest of this section of line and will include pics of this on here. Hopefully in future, pics will include what's left of the dismantled Tanat Valley Light railway towards Llanrhaeadr Y.M. After several nights on the computer the site is a little tidier again.
NANTMAWR RAILWAY.
Latest Nantmawr Railway and CRS news. Stop press.
Nothing to report on Nantmawr railway other than the usual regular track inspections. However on 30/01/09, the Chairman of the Cambrian Railways Trust and Vice Chairman of Cambrian Railways Society recently signed an historic legal document confirming that the two bodies will be working together in restoring the railway from Gobowen to Blodwell. This was witnessed by Shropshire MP Owen Patterson. The Cambrian Heritage Railways now have the lease of their respective lines from Gobowen to Blodwell Quarry. Clearance work has already taken place on several sections of the line. The Council gave their consent for all this work back in September 2008. So if anyone fancies helping to clear either the Cambrian Railways Society or Trust line then contact myself on 07929424399. Please note that all volunteers must first be members of one of the organisations.
Working on this railway is a good experience in itself. The railway is surrounded by excellent hill scenery as the railway is in a valley. A willing volunteer has a good and friendly welcome. Jobs range from track work, lineside vegitation, cleaning ditches, fencing, some mechanical work.
WELSH HIGHLAND RAILWAY TRACKLAYING.
Stop press. Phase 4 Tracklaying News. 16/02/09
Due to rising fuel costs and the fact that I'm currently unemployed, I've now decided to volunteer on the railway on a monthly basis only. I've no plans to quit the railway as I find it's like going to visit some of my best family. The WHR vols would miss me far too much. I love them as much as they love me.
I hope to recommence some long needed volunteering in the next few weeks. Please note photography on all sections of railway line are strictly forbidden due to the whole railway being a construction site.I've had the Phase 4 safety induction which means I'm aware of the and dangers.See the latest photos to see how things went on this day.I do apolagise if I don't name everyone on the railway in my collection if someone is offended by this. This is due to the fact that there's a lot more people volunteering on the WHR track gang's than the CRS's Nantmawr railway work parties where there's just over half a dozen most of the time.
Volunteering on this railway is a pleasant experience too. You not only meet friendly people but having spent a day tracklaying you feel that you've achieved something good. If catching the works train from say Beddgelert or elsewhere you also ride on the several unopened sections of line which sometimes can include the Aberglaslyn Pass tunnels and vice versa which is an experience in itself not to be missed. Unlike on the Nantmawr railway, working parties usually take place here in bad weather. If a working party is cancelled, then the tracklaying organiser will contact you beforehand. To volunteer on the tracklaying, you must first have a Phase 4 site induction. This only takes a few minutes. To volunteer contact the following people;

| My name is Alun Evans. I live in Llanfyllin. I've recently been made redundant and I'm currently unemployed. On Saturdays I sometimes volunteer on the Welsh Highland and Cambrian railways as you can see in this gallery. I also like walking disused railway lines too.
