| Having walked from Blodwell Junction towards Llanyblodwell on the Tanat Valley Railway and then from the missing Tanat river bridge back to Blodwell Junction along the Old Potts Line from the Llanymynech direction, we now walk from the opposite side of the Tanat river bridge towards Llanymynech to the next missing Tanat river bridge. I found that between the missing Tanat river bridge and A495 overbridge, sections of the trackbed were untraceable. Chunks of the trackbed were either heavily overgrown or simply ploughed over. Even though the abutments of the first Tanat river bridge are largely intact the next one has largely sadly disappeared. Some of it is still standing. A member of the Aireys Family (the landowners of this section of trackbed) told me that the bridge abutments were still intact up to 20 years ago. I noticed that the Evironment Agency have constructed a weir to control the flow of water near the site of the river bridge. In my view, if this railway was ever reopened it could cost twice as much as reconstructing the Welsh Highland Railway. I've also included a picture of the site of Carreghofa Halt. There is no trace of this former Halt whatsoever. I must thank the Aireys Family for allowing me to walk this section of trackbed. |
